Makena Beach is one of the most famous beaches on Maui, also known as Big Beach, it is one of the longest beaches on the island with three separate entrances. The north end of Big Beach is bordered by Pu’u Ola’i, a large dome like cinder cone. On the other side of this Pu’u Ola’i is Little Beach, a popular beach for nude sunbathers.
There are no showers at this beach, but there are port-a-potties, food trucks, and picnic tables. There isn’t much for shade along the shores so it can get very hot. Beware of the dangerous shorebreaks, many people have gotten hurt underestimating the oceans power at this beach.
Turn right into one of the entrances with a sign saying "Makena Beach (Big Beach.)" Park and take your valuables with you.
